FAQs

You hold the answer to this within you. Are you feeling stuck? Maybe a little lost? Are you aware that you’re repeating patterns of behaviour and you just don’t seem able to stop? If the answer to any of those is ‘yes’, then counselling could be beneficial. What’s critical is that you come to counselling with a preparedness to be open and honest about how you’re feeling and to move forward in your understanding of yourself. So, really, the question is ‘Are you ready for counselling?’
Our first session(s) will be focused on assessment – finding out more about you, considering where you are right now and what you think you need from counselling. We’ll build a working contract together, one where we agree on how and when we’re going to work and what the boundaries of our agreement are. After that, the scope of our sessions will depend on what you want to bring and how you want to work.
Yes. But there are limits to confidentiality. My ethical commitment is to your wellbeing, so there could conceivably be a situation where I perceived a risk of serious or significant harm to you or someone else that would require a breach of confidentiality. There are also limits relating to the disclosure of serious, criminal activity. All of this will be explained, in full, in our first session.
An initial consultation session is either 50 minutes in-person or a 20-minute telephone call. Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes. Extended therapy sessions are 90 minutes.

That’s for you to decide based on your needs. I appreciate that therapy is a financial commitment. My typical recommendation would be to start with weekly or fortnightly, but I’m happy to discuss bespoke options too.

Payment is required by bank transfer 24 hours before a session commences. I appreciate that some cancellations are unavoidable and therefore, in most cases, I offer a full refund if sessions are cancelled with at least 24 hours notice. At my discretion, cancellations made with 12-24 hours notice will receive a partial refund. Cancellations made with less than 12 hours notice, or session non-attendance will be charged in full.
My focus is on creating a confidential, therapeutic space to support you. If bringing someone with you is essential, for example, a translator or a carer, then I’m happy to discuss and, where possible, facilitate.
